Don: When you issue the D+E+F command, you are telling the unit to memorize the = current defaults, including the date and time. So, no. The unit can't = automatically remember this information, since it doesn't know when you = are about to remove the batteries. Rob Meredith >>> Don.Barrett@xxxxxx 07/26/04 09:32AM >>> Is there a reason the unit shouldn't remember the date and time by =3D default. Then, the d,e,f command could be used for something else like = =3D turning on recording mode. However, if you use the D+E+F command before removing the =3D3D batteries, the unit will remember the date and time, but the clock will = =3D =3D3D not run while the batteries are removed. >>> blsmass@xxxxxxxx 07/24/04 12:26AM >>> First, the question. How long does the date and time stay set if the batteries are removed? Now to the review. There are lots of things I like about the new bookport. The only problem I have had is withthe device locking up. This usually happens with MP3 files, whether going too fast through the file or sometimes just switching from file to =3D3D file.=3D3D20 This will sometimes cause the bookport to lock up and sometimes it will just cause the voice to become distorted. If you then wait for the 10 seconds for the bookport to cycle and turn off, sometimes the voice will come back. Sometimes the bookport will be playing an MP3 file, after which you can do nothhing and the file continues to play. If you hold down the #2 key sometimes this will stop, sometimes the voice stops but then you cannot do anything else and have to take the batteries out for = =3D a second. (The 2B combination does not seem to change this. I notice =3D that there are still some file erors which occur, but it seems that if you simply stop playing the file and restart it the error goes away. Of course, I am thrilled about the speed shift, since I used to read everything at double speed. The one interesting thing about the device locking up that is different is that now when it locks up it stops at =3D the place you were, whereas it used to stop at the place you started from when you began to use it. I was also interested to note the page number setting, although since it gives me page numbers in MP3 files I know =3D have no page numbers, I do not really trust it. Those are my feelings and experiences. I hope this helps somebody. I did find the transferring =3D of the upgrade files a bit difficult but I finally got that done. In my opinion, these changes have simply increased the usefulness of this device. Now that I can speed up MP3 files, I can use CDEX or something, download the CD to mp3 and convert it. Yes, it does take a long time, but since I am going to be reading the file at double speed I will take the time. Thanks for reading this. Kurt=3D3D20
