Greetings, David and List,

The restriction became obvious once I checked the list of participating libraries and was confirmed in a response I received from them--the NLS regional library serving Northern California is a participant while that serving Southern California is not.

I thought there was/is a way to check geographically; I was curious as to how it is done. Thanks.

Michael

Hi Michael and list:

I bet the restriction has to do with the way the project is being funded. Enforcement can be achieved at least to some degree by monitoring IP addresses, as well as other things.

Geographical restrictions are unfortunate, and they won't go away any time soon. I can name a few of them that are of particular interest to the AT industry, but there you go.

Cheers,
Dave

Greetings, Kathy and List.

Thanks for the info. I wonder (with the Internet being what it is) why the geographical restrictions are in place and how they are enforced. Once again, another instance of No. Cal bias against us So. Cal types. (For those outside CA, there really is a huge difference between the two regions.

To bring this back on topic and as a follow-up to a previous inquiry: If known at this time, does APH intend to retain DAISY access as a priced add-on in the future or will this policy be impacted by the NLS switch to DAISY. I will buy it if I must, but given the significant increase in DAISY access through NLS titles and players, I would think APH might want some sort of seamless system as a selling point. I have not seen the NLS player but it has to be larger than the BP, and I would rather carry my books around on the BP if the books can be transferred.

Thanks again, Kathy.

Michael
