Yes, I often use the book port's spell function to learn how to spell a
tricky word, either because I know that I don't know or because as you say,
it is mangled by the synthesiser. Unfortunately, the problem can also be
caused by incorrectly edited scanning of the document when it was put into
electronic format.
I also often stop and spell words, particularly important names, when using
a service such as Newsline.
