I suspect the files you are working with are VBR (variable bit rate)
files, which are not supported for unindexed navigation.

The subject says it all. I'm using the latest Bookport beta firmware.
When I try to navigate some unindexed mp3 files I have loaded, the
error "seek failed" is now displayed. I can't even hold down 1 for 1
beep to go to the top of the file. It will say, "Seek failed". I've
found that stopping the reading, then moving back to the previous file
and then immediately back to the file I was reading allows me to press
1 for 1 beep to go to the top of the file. However, this doesn't seem
to prove effective for long, and it doesn't allow me to use any other
navigation commands.
If more info is required, I'll be more than happy to provide it. I've
reset my bookport and taken out the batteries and put them back in,
but the problem still exists.
