Thanks very much. You are right--I do not want to download all 1700 books
at the same time and was, in fact, trying to avoid doing that--I was trying
to figure out where they are and what the selections are so I could pick and
choose.
Thanks again.
That is the standard message that any user receives whenever their firmware
or transfer software needs to be updated--that is, it's not something unique
to those who install the software for the first time. Just follow the
instructions and you'll be okay. Since the manual that's on the CD is
matched to the version of the firmware and software that's shipped with the
BP, you might or might not actually receive the update message, depending on
exactly where your particular unit happens to fall in a given development
cycle. However, for those who actually read the manual reasonably carefully
before connecting their BP for the first time, some kind of generic notice
might be included in the manual to the effect of, "If you receive a message
that the Book Port software or firmware needs to be updated, <include some
boiler plate language about following the on-screen prompts>."
You probably don't want to download all 1700 of the books on the CD at one time--in fact, I doubt there's a CompactFlash card that would hold all of them at once. They're just there for examples and the manual contains information on other resources.
There are audio queues that indicate when a book is being transfered and when the transfer is complete. If memory serves, these are turned on by default and can be controlled by way of the Options dialog in Book Port Transfer.

Subject: [bookport] Re: Problem with send files to book [port.
I just received my unit also and when I tried to install the CD, I got a
message indicating that it was out of date and to go to the APH website for
the most updated version. I understand that APH can't send out a new CD
every time the software is upgraded but it seems (to me anyway) that a
reference to this could be made in the Users' Manual. (Maybe it is and I
missed it.)
Since I am writing anyway, I have a few rookie questions:
1. When downloading, I notice that I am given all sorts of file types to
choose from. Are the 1700 freebies in those file types so you automatically
download all of them?
2. Are there any auditory cues when a book is downloaded and when it is
done? Thanks.
