The only thng on that card was audible books and all were gone. It was the
one GB card that I bought. I too had a muddy recording. My card that came
with the BP has text files and other info. I just use the 1 GB for audible
books. *sigh*

Well, it is, which is to say that when you record your first memo, the book
port creates a "memos" folder and names the file with the time and date
stamp as taken from the book port's clock / calendar. All subsequent
recordings are also saved / stored in the memos folder. Hence, I can't see
how the making of an unintentional recording could trash other book port
content, irrespective of where such content is located, though books should
presumably be stored in the "book port" folder.
Now, Sara's situation sounds exactly like what happened to me on the morning
of may 12th when several audible book files (though blessedly not all of
them), were deleted. I know for a fact that at some point after having
surrendered my book port to airline security staff, the book port was placed
in "record mode", and did make a rather interesting, though rather muddy
recording. I never drew any connection between the recording of that memo
and the erasure of the audible books beyond the fact that security personnel
were probably man-handling the buttons, either intentionally or
unintentionally.
Bottom line, especially when your book port contains all that you plan to
read while on vacation, either (1) remove your flash card, or (2) lock the
keyboard. Personally, I'd go with option one, since, just my luck, some
security guy would just manage to hit the unlock sequence and replicate what
happened a month ago.
To Sarah, I'm sorry this advice comes too late. I do feel your pain; I went
a good part of the way down the unpleasant road you've just traveled.
