Hello, What you do Rick is exactly what I do as far as a change in batteries goes, I still have the original software that came with my unit and do not believe in fixing something if it is not broken. If I ever make it back to Louisville, I will go to ASH and let the folks there upgrade the unit, that way if something goes wrong, I will be in the perfect spot. I have never used that DEF command, but rather have just popped out the old batteries, popped in the new ones and never found any problem. Of course it was the default settings, but it is a pretty quick thing to put 'em back where they were. Am I doing something wrong not using this command, which I guess I should be scared of anyway? The command for preserving settings while changing batteries is d plus e plus f. However, there is a serious bug which causes some of the newer units to crash, when utilizing this command. This bug is being worked on, but in the meantime, I wouldn't use this command, as it can cause the unit to die and you'd have to send it back.
