However, you don't have to pay a one-time charge. You can get the Audible Listener® Platinum Monthly plan for $22.95 / Month, at $11.47 per credit and you get 2 credits per month. So, not as much pocketbook damage up front but %11.5 more over a year.

I haven't tried EMusic yet. I still have 16 Audible books on my current subscription. And, Audible has many more books than EMusic does right now. I will definitely check out EMusic at renewal time though.

Regards,

Don...

I agree. it really hurts to fork out that $220, or whatever it is all at once, but getting twentyfour credits for under $10 a credit isn't to shabby. I tried to install the emusic program, and it wouldn't take. Now I have windows service pack 2, might try again, but they're going to get pretty upset if i keep signing up and unsigning again.
Oh, Well...

Hi Maria,

I too buy from Audible. Their books are much less expensive if you buy an annual contract.

Hi Don,

Thank you so much for sharing this email with us. I am a member of Audible.com and can only afford to purchase two books a month from them which, depending on the length of the book, I devour in a week or so. This info you have given us will certainly go a long way to enhance my reading experience and pleasure.

Thanks again,

Maria

Their prices are quite low as well. $10 average.

Greetings,

I ran across this today and thought it was pertinent to BookPort users:

"eMusic fights Audible with DRM-free books Online music retailer eMusic today revealed that it will begin selling audiobooks through its web-based portal, potentially upturning the traditionally closed-off digital audiobook industry. Reflecting the company's existing approach to albums and songs,
eMusic will sell a selection of books in MP3 format. This will allow
virtually any computer or handheld to play the files regardless of format support and will let users copy songs freely -- a break from books offered at Audible, iTunes, and similar stores, which often apply copy-protection to
each song."

There is more to the article. You may read it in it's entirety at
<http://www.macnn.com/articles/07/09/17/emusic.audiobooks/>.

So, it looks like we can now purchase less expensive and unprotected Audio
books. The eMusic audio books page is at
<http://www.emusic.com/audiobooks/index.html>.

Regards,

Don...
