I wonder if it was those with beta 2.05 who had the problems, as that was
where I started from.

I'm not sure how the updating problem is caused, but it is not because some 
were beta testers and some were not.  I am a beta tester, and I updated from

beta 6 to the new firmware 2.3 with no problems.
