How about something where only one key would beep when pressed? Or even better,
a combination of two keys? Maybe 1+4, which is not currently utilized. When
locked, the machine could be silent until the user pressed 1+4. Then you'd get
the beep we're all familiar with. I do agree that it's good to be able to tell
the machine
is off without the headphones.
Sorry if this has already been suggested--I haven't read all of the messages
yet.
