I totally agree and have said something myself not so long ago.

Subject: [bookport] List behaviour

Hello!

A few weeks ago, several (including me) expressed frustration over the
equals signs that were appearing on every line in some list messages. I
thought it was only a part of messages that were posted by APH staff at
first. But as the practice continued, I found this wasn't so. If there was
an explanation of what causes this on list, I missed it. They're still
there, and there just as annoying as ever, especially when messages often
contain instructions that would (other than these unnecessary equals signs)
be very useful. The equals signs (apparently sometimes as many as 20 of
them) at the end of every line only add confusion. Now the thread seems to
have died, but the practice hasn't. Can we get rid of them?

Dave
