Walt, This variable speed and pitch restoration is what I had in mind as well. It sure does help and you can go back and slow down the rate if you need to really pick out exactly what has been said. You can already speed up (compress) speech on the MP3 files you transfer to the bookport. So just go into the audio options of book port transfer and just do it.
