I had a similar problem in my residential neighborhood which is across the street from a COSCO shopping center, catercorner from a huge mall, across the street from a fire station.

The county installed a beeper and within a day took it down because of a noise complaint.

Your correspondence has relit my lamp, and I'm going to insist on at least a remote device that will make its noise only by IF or IR device.

Anyone have reliable equipment providers?

Appreciate any suggestions!

Well it's involved but I'll try to be as brief as possible.
We have 20 audible signals in town of the chirp and cuckoo type.
There has been some new construction and the state has installed 3
integrated signals such as you use daily. I've worked with the town over
the years regarding audible signals but there is a neighborhood group now
contending that the signals violate the Mass. Department of Environmental
Protection as noise pollution.
We have the chirping/cuckoo on main streets but also in neighborhoods
without complaint.
This man is claiming that we can't put them in his neighborhood. One signal
is going to be installed near a home with an autistic child so we already
know we have to make some compromises on this signal finding out how to
adjust it so that maybe the locator sound could come on approach instead of
being on all the time.
This is a main street where the signals are installed with constant moving
traffic not as busy as where you live but certainly noisy and loud. The
family with the autistic child lives across the street from a ball park
believe it or not and also a skating rink which can be used late into the
night and yet are participating in this complaint of the signal being too
noisy.
So my question to you is about whether or not there is housing in and around
any of the signals in Louisville or is it a business district only?
I'm trying to get together a bit of info about where the integrated signals
are placed in other cities and towns in case we have to go beyond the
information regarding ADA compliance. the signals although not required by
the ADA are considered a reasonable accommodation and unless the town can
show undue hardship it would be considered a denial of access not to install
them. the town has installed 2 of the 3 but it is this last one that has
become a huge source of contention. The town is a bit scared off by this
man's tactic of using EPA standards but it seems to me if audible signals
are installed in so many communities throughout the U.S. we probably aren't
violating any EPA laws.
Sorry for the length but it needed explanation. By the way our town is more than willing to install this last signal but is a little gun shy due to this man's letter. I have written my own letter pointing out the inaccuracies in
his letter about audible signals, the ADA and conflict of disabilities.
What a fun way to spend my long weekend!
Thanks for any info you can provide.

Hi Larry
Sorry I don't have your e-mail address so had to ask through the list.
Could you contact me off list?
If possible I need to ask you a few questions about the audible signals
you
use daily.
thanks
Barbara
