Not exactly true. Only play the Bookport, using clean dry hands. Over time, the keys can stick or be hard to press. That is when it is time to send it in for repair. Handle the headphone jack with care. Be gentle with the battery contacts. They can bend easily. Store the Bookport in a dry place. Make sure your batteries are strong before updating the firmware. (This advice is for those of you who don't have the newest version, since the Bookport itself will no longer be updated.) These tips should help to give you many years of Bookport use.

Hi

Well, first things first:

Read the manual, or try to. Follow along as best you can. I find book ports manual very intuitive, and you can also find an audio version of it at
http://www.aph.org

Sorry I don't have the complete address; but there you have it. Don't fear to ask questions, that's how you learn. And don't fear that the book port will blow up, haha. Its a very stable unit and it could be dropped from a 10 story building and survive. (Keep in mind I'm being sarcastic, but its very hard to break this unit because there are no moving parts. So if it does break, it will be the flash card and you can buy another one!)

Hi,

In the beginning, I am afraid that it is like that for me too.

Thanks, Chase. I am one of those people who get real nervous when I am
trying something new with technology. I can just picture the whole thing
blowing up. Yes, I do have a very active imagination. Smile.

Thanks for that information, Marta. So far I am enjoying my Bookport. I
am
reading a book that I downloaded from christianaudio.com. They offer a
free
download each month and I managed to download it myself, which is a
miracle.
Smile. I have not tried music yet, as the sight that was recommended to
me
is not accessible to JAWS.

Hope you enjoy your bookport. Pasting music onto the bookport is
easier
than transferring brf or text files, as all you have to do is paste the
files as if bookport were another disc drive. The transfer protocol is
not
required for music or mp3 audio books.

Hi,

My name is Marilee and I am just beginning to use a Bookport. I have
actually had it for about 3 years, but was so busy with on line classes
that
I did not have time to explore all of the capabilities of the Bookport.
I
have downloaded a few books, and am going to try to learn how to
download
some music as well as books from Bookshare. I am not exactly a techno
whiz,
so I may have some questions along the way. I am hoping to learn about
all
of the neat things that my Bookport can dofrom those of you who have
used
it
for years. Smile.

Marilee
