This is fine but I will be happy with bp1.

I'll try to do Larry justice here.

1. Thinner unit. This is why the unit cannot take standard batteries.

2. On-the-fly speed adjustment something they're working on, one of the
first things they want to implement.

3. Microphone jack.

4. Some type of built-in microphone, right now it looks like a stereo
mike.
5. Used SD cards.

6. Supports more file formats.

7. Recording will have user-definable file attributes.
8. Will support the NLS format at some point.

9. Approximately 40 hours of audio listening on one battery charge
10. Battery will charge when BP is connected to computer, unit can be
operated while connected to computer.
11. Uses USB 2 for faster transfer

12. Stereo channel-swapping issue resolved.

13. No belt clip on actual unit.

14. Issues with some USB port chipsets hopefully resolved
15. Much more memory room for enhancements and upgradability.

Is there anyone who would be willing to summarize what is new and
different about the new Bookport? I frankly didn't have time to listen
to Main Menu, and I probably won't for a while, I am having guests for
the next ten days.
So, if someone would simply say something about the new features, that
would be wonderful.
From what I've gathered, the unit will be thinner, it will support SD
cards (so easy to lose) and it will have a rechargeable battery. It
will still have Doubletalk, and it will recharge from USB.
I may not even be right about what I've said, but that is what I could
glean from the comments I read on this list.
Does anyone else know anything significant about its new features?

We will continue to support the old one or current Book Port until parts
run out. We can't make anymore changes to this one, because we've
reached the limit on what we can do to it and parts are either being
obsoleted or too expensive to obtain and would raise the price.

The reason for the Design Change on the battery is that the new Book
Port will be thinner and regular batteries won't fit into it.

I didn't hear any commentary about how long they would support it,
just that they would. The deal with APH is that they don't do all the
fixes themselves.
When I had to get the USB plug fixed on mine they had to send it back
to Springer I'm guessing. It wasn't cheap either! I think they
replaced the board $125.00
I got the idea that, though there are changes, there are many things
about the bookport which will be the same. Lary mentioned that the
footprint is the same size, same keypad. Same speech chip. they're
choosing a special battery because, Lary said, it works best with
bookport. It seems like they may be using some of the same internal
architecture. I don't know that to be the case, but it seems like
they're sooping up the old BP with things which can be taken advantage
of in the future. As I understand it, they've run out of internal
memory for firmware on BP 1. That seems like something which they're
working on. It seems like SD is being used because CF is getting more
expensive.

So, it seems like they're taking a good thing and just making it
better, not redesigning it from the ground up.
