Hi Bruce and list: Bet they didn't include that handy repair tip in the manual, right? Cheers, Dave----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Toews" <dogriver@xxxxxxxx>

I had one of the original tape-based VersaBrailles back in the eighties. It had a neglegeble, but chronic problem ... I can't even remember what it was. One day the unit took a tumble off my desk onto the concrete school floor. The only consequence was a slight scratch on the lid, and the chronic problem disappeared entirely, never to be seen again. She'd had the camera less than a month and it survived without any damage whatever, although I still don't know how. For those who aren't necessarily aware of such details, digital cameras; unlike standard 35mm cameras; ordinarily don't have a neck strap. Well, I contacted the camera manufacturer after this incident and learned that there actually _is_ an optional neck strap that absolutely nobody carries and that wasn't even listed in the manufacturer's official list of accessories.----- Original Message ----- From: "David Tanner" <david-tanner@xxxxxxxxxxxx>To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, March 02, 2007 12:34 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: I tried to kill my Bookport Well, I have to say I have never been quite that hard on my Book Port, but I will admit it has hit the floor more than once, and I think the only access technology hardware that I have ever seen that would take as much abuse as the Book Port was the old Braille 'N Speaks. I had a BNS Classic that got plenty of abuse and kept right on working, and a BNS 640 that got droped hard enough to crack the bottom of the unit, but it still works. Now, let us hope the new Book Port will be just as tough and sturdy as the current model.-- Bruce Toews E-mail and MSN/Windows Messenger: dogriver@xxxxxxxx Website: http://www.ogts.net Radio Show and Podcast: http://www.totw.net Info on the Best TV Show of All Time: http://www.cornergas.com
