Hello: The subject line is misleading, but when you read the message you will appreciate how fortunate I believe I have been. Last Thursday, I brought my Bookport to work. I wanted to show it to one of my students. I was attempting to hold three or four things at once, when suddenly gravity exerted its mastery. The Bookport and I rediscovered that gravity is not just a good idea, it's the law. The bookport cracked into the hard tile floor, the batteries went one way, the battery cover went the other way. I scrambled around and recovered everything. I noticed that there was a small sliver of plastic broken off of the bottom of the unit. I replaced the batteries, restored my settings, and my Bookport functioned just as it should. That was fortunate. However, now for the truly amazing part. I was carrying a carafe of coffee in one hand, and a full cup of the same wonderful brew in the other. I somehow managed to slosh some coffee into my shirt pocket, where resided my Bookport. I immediately put everything down, opened the unit, and removed the batteries. They were wet, and I was fairly sure that this was the end of my Bookport. Because I have the patience of a five year old at a birthday party, about ten minutes later, I tried the machine. It stuttered, and made a high whining noise. Could this be the death rattle? I then placed the open Bookport in a warm dry place. After about an hour I reinserted the batteries. Nothing happened. I tried again, and got that most welcoming of messages. "Defaults restored"! To make this long story short, a few of the keys didn't seem to be functioning correctly. After inserting my 4 gig card, I performed a couple of resets. And, all has been fine ever since. To say I'm fortunate is an understatement. To me, the Bookport is the best thing since Talking Books, and I would sorely miss the device if it were to be taken from me, especially because of my own folly. Perhaps in writing this, I'll be charged with Bookport abuse, but I am so glad my unit is working correctly that I'll gladly confess to anything! (smile)
