I agree with what you say if the rebate is with a very well known company
and if the rebate is substantial enough to make it worth while. I have
had
luck with companies like Sprint, Gateway, Sony, and Sandisk. Honestly
speaking however I also have been burned by several no-name companies
whose
names I don't even remember. Generally speaking, I don't bother with
mail-in rebates unless it is a fairly large amount, say $25 or more, and I
don't even bother purchasing anything from companies I have never heard
of.
On the other side of the coin however, I have had very good luck with some
pretty hefty rebates on desktop computers and things like that. The extra
time you have to put into it to get them sent in and tracking them is
worth
while since in many cases they could be several hundred dollars. My Son
just got a $1000 rebate on a Sony LCD TV he purchased which was great.
Unfortunately, I have had very bad luck with buy.com rebates so I don't
bother with those at all unless they are really substantial. Attempting
to
find out why I never got the rebates proved to be terrible experiences.
Having said that however, I do purchase quite a bit from buy.com as their
prices usually seem to be pretty good as well as NewEgg.com.

I will be the first to admit that rebates are a real pain! For the
totally
blind person you need assistance with preparing what is needed to send 99%
of the time. However, if you get beyond that hurdle, make a copy of
everything you send, and keep track of the rebates you should receive, the
percentage of rebates received is normally higher than 10%. If you want
to
go through the aforementioned trouble, a $30 rebate is not bad.

Nine times out of ten, people don't get their rebates. I got a 4GB
card for less than $58.00. It didn't say, "instant rebate", did
it? I have learned the hard way not to trust rebates.
