I once had a structure in which I had each month's copy of a braille 
magazine in its own subfolder. The structure looked like:

Root
| Magazine Title
|| Jan, Feb, Mar, etc. as separate subfolders

This was so incredibly difficult to work with that I quickly abandoned it.

You can create as many subfolders as you like.  Why would you want to
go a level below the root directory?  "Root" is just what it implies.
