The book courier was designed for print disabled people, specifically
sighted people who are dyslexic or have some similar disability. The
bookport wouldn't be that useful to them since most of them probably don't
know Braille, though we all know from Peter's example that it can be
learned.

I couldn't agree more. At present, since I do own both devices, it's so
neat to load them both using the Book Port's software. My parenthetical
note about Audible.com files was just a reminder that they're encrypted for
individual units of whatever type which must be activated separately, since
some people may not realize this. Otherwise, so far at least, I've found no

compatibility issues with the exception of HTM and HTML files, which BC
doesn't currently support.

Here's my impression, as a whole: Book Courier was a neat, flexible,
economical product until APH was able to contract with Springer and make a
better machine. As I see it, BC was a touchstone product but is destined to

be entirely eclipsed by BP and perhaps other look-alike items which are sure

to follow. It hasn't been upgraded in quite awhile, and its user group gets

no traffic at all. I subscribed some time ago and have yet to receive a
message. Is this a sad development? Probably not. Why have two
practically identical items on the market whose only significant difference
lies in the transfer software? I may be entirely off-base in expecting BC's

demise, but it's bound to happen. APH created software which is hundreds of

times more user-friendly, and it provides time and pause compression and
other perks. With all the attention BP is receiving, I just can't see
Springer going to the time and expense of continuing to enhance and upgrade
their product. That having said, though, they deserve a great deal of
commendation for creating something truly special and meeting so many needs.
