Hello:

You can open Book Port Transfer.
Go to the Options menu and tab down to the Synthesized Speech button.

You will be presented with a dialog box with several tabs in it for selecting
the voice, rate, pitch, and volume. Book Port Transfer gets this information
from the available voices on your system. Once you've made your choices, tab
to the OK button.

Then, select the book to transfer, using the Look-in box. Then, instead of
hitting the Enter key or tabbing down to Send, you would use alt e, or tab down
to the Send Audio button.

Depending on the size of the file and the speed you have chosen, it could take
anywhere from 5 minutes to 20 minutes--there is no way to tell you exactly how
long, because it will vary. You can be informed about the progress of the
transfer by doing Jaws Insert t, where you will be given information such as
"Sending 50%, etc. If you're not using JAWS, use whatever command your screen
reader has for reading the Status Bar.

Others will also have their preferred method of converting text to audio. If
the final conversion is Mp3, then you could copy the file.

Just remember you won't have as many navigational possibilities with doing this.

I have had my book port for almost a year and I have never read a book on it
because of DOUBLE TALK.

I use the book port only for podcasts and music.

I down load the podcast to a card reader and then play the podcasts on the
BK after I transfer the flash card.

It has always seemed to me that this could be done with text files from BOOK
SHARE if the file could converted to another "voice."

The thread lately gives me hope that DOUBLE TALK can be by passed butt I
still do not have an inkling of how to do it!

If any one can help ----have a go at it!

John
