As a follow-up. I have gotten a number of audible.com books whose quality, at level 4 or the highest recording quality have not been all that great. Some of them are recorded off of cassette tape. So, if there is a lot of decode/reencoding that needs to happen, that would seem to make the quality only worse. I'm not sure how often I would use this feature, especially as only a few of the books have been distorted and none of them have been so distorted that I had difficulty listening to them. I see this more as a spoken word thing, but we can do it if people want it. I have many ways to play audio and I don't need the book port to be a perfect audiophile device. However, I know that others may want to use it for their best quality audio. So, having a choice of normalizing or not seems like a good idea.
