This method (a) bypasses the transfer program, and (b) lets you use USB
2.0 instead of 1.2. Both of these factors speed up the process
considerably. The downside, of course, is that navigation isn't quite as
powerful if the transfer program has been bypassed.

Is this suppose to be a faster method of uploading information to the card rather than using the USB cable that comes with the bookport? ----- Original Message ----- From: <chris.BP.FL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 27, 2006 8:33 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Can't Say enough for Card Readers
itthere are several kinds of external writer/readers, some only for compact flash, others also for more memory types. a writer/reader for cf only is just enclosing the card, so let's say 1 centimeter (.4 in) thicker, longer and broader than the card, the other ones are somewhat larger.
an external writer/reader is not connected to the BP, but to your PC, depending on its interface with a USB(2.0) or firewire(400/1394a) cable.
there are also cf cardbus (PCMCIA) adapters. then the adapter + card fully disappears in the cardbus slot.
some newer pc's may have a built-in writer/reader.

Can I get a description of what the card reader looks like and where is[mailto:bookport-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx]plugged into the bookport? ----- Original Message ----- From: <chris.BP.FL@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx> To: <bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Friday, January 27, 2006 3:05 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Can't Say enough for Card Readers
and
in my previous post i wrote about card reader/wrriter interfaces usb 2.0orderfirewire. i forgot to tell the transfer speed with the current cards is limited by the card, and not by the interface. the fastest cards (for consumers) i knnow have a speed of approx. 20 megabytes/second, while the USB 2.0 and firewire 400/1394a are in theof 50 megabytes/second.

One thing's for sure, the bigger your memory card, the more glad you can be for card readers. It's so much faster dumping audiobooks on MP3 onto1/26/2006cards via a card reader. And with the improved navigation for unfiltered cards, what can I say, APH, great job.
