I was having all sorts of trouble with peripheals not showing up when I used a multi port non a/c powered hub. Once I switched to a 7 port u s b /ac hub, that fit the bill. If I wanted to, I could leave a u s b cable attached to the port and switch off my portable ex drives, book port, stream, etc, but just because I put the device at the small end of the cable did not automatically ensure that the device would automatically appear iunder my computer. As stated earlier, I had much success by restarting the computer after attaching the device.

It is powered. Reviews of non-powered hubs on TigerDirect.com indicated that would be a better choice.

Is the hub a powered one? If memory serves me correctly, I have used a powered hub in the past with my Bookport successfully.

If the hub isn't powered, the BP not working would indeed make sense.

My husband received a USB hub for Christmas. The idea was to avoid switching cables constantly, as only 2 ports are working right now. But, with the hub plugged into the computer, the computer will not recognize that the Bookport is connected. I tried plugging the cable directly into the computer, but it didn't like that, either - even if the Bookport is connected directly to the computer, if the hub is also plugged in, the computer can't see the Bookport. If I unplug the hub, then voila, it can see the Bookport. My camera uses the same USB cord, and the computer can see it just fine, even running through the hub.

The hub is a D-Link 7 port, if that makes a difference.

Any ideas on how to make this work? As it is, I'm still unplugging and re-plugging cables behind the computer whenever my husband wants another book or some more music. <sigh>
