One more note and I'll stop. I don't know when I've enjoyed a product as much as I've enjoyed the Bookport. The synthesizer is indeed very good--far, far better than the Stream's. ----- Original Message ----- From: Constantine To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2009 1:28 PM Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport Service I quite agree here. The only thing the stream does better is voice recording. Also, why are people so bent on using internal batteries! THat just buggs me. The book port and stream are the same thickness, yet the stream lasts a meezly 15 hours on battery and I can pull 70 out of my book port? Also, why these stupid voices on the stream - I can't sit and read a good book like I can on the book port. The streams voices are fine. But you start reading and you can't read as fast, and its pronounciations of things for some words is quite bad. I love the doubletalk synthisizer, I hope its being used in the next version of bp... I only have my book port for another month and then I have to give it back to the agency that gave it to me. I'm thinking maybe I'll ask if I can buy it. So far, for me, nothings gone wrong, the only thing that's gone is the cover covering the hole of the headphone jack - the rubber thing. But that's a small thing, I'll probably get several thousand more hours of use out of the thing before I have to give it up (*sniffles*)! contact details: email: tcwood12@xxxxxxx and others msn: the_conman283@xxxxxxxxxxx skype: the_conman283 system details: Hp pavillion dv5220CA notebook pc AMD Turion(tm) 64 Mobile Technology ML-37 2.0 GHZ, 1024 mb DDR ram, Fujitsu 100 gb 4500 RPM Hard Drive, connecsant AC-link audio ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard.Petty To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, May 02, 2009 8:11 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport Service I echo everything Rick wrote in his message. I've found nothing that even comes close to the Bookport functionality. Aside from the Victor Reader's ability to play NLS Talking Books and perhaps its speakers, the Bookport does everything better--and it does more! And, I too am sad that mine can't be repaired. ----- Original Message ----- From: Rik James To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, April 07, 2009 1:51 PM Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport Service I am sure very sorry to hear this news about the Book Port. Just one year ago, I had buttons on my unit beginning to fail, and I sent it to APH and it serviced and it has been working great. But to think that this unit is now obsolete, it makes me sad. I have seen no other device yet that has featues like this one. I did buy a Victor Stream and am pleased well enough with it but find for most of reading, I still like the Book Port. Specifically, the ability to stop on a word, spell the word. The Stream you can do this, but not as easily and convenient. As a person who has trouble hearing it remains a very handy thing. Also the speech quality to me is much better than the Stream. The Stream's fuzzy garbled voices are very marginal to my ability to understand many of its pronunciations. So, please tell me, that a new device using the best features of the APH Book Port is on its way? Thanks. But why not take it to a place like Radio Shack Repair. Circuit City Is gone now. But a place that services note book computers may have similar parts or equipment to do the job. If you live near a college or university, Try calling their disabled student services department. You might find that they could have someone who services specialized equipment-or can refer you to someone who does. Sometimes a minor adjustment or application of contact cleaner can do wonders. Who knows? You might be able to give it a second lease on life. One thing for sure, you won't be harming the warrantee, as there is none. If all this fails, you can set it up on a tree stump and take turns shooting at it with a 22. Ok, You can use the 12 gage side by side. ----- Original Message ----- From: Richard.Petty To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, April 06, 2009 6:10 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport Service Pamela and all, Are there any third party service options? It seems a shame to discard the Bookport if there were some way of repairing it. ----- Original Message ----- From: Pamela Rader To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, April 03, 2009 8:35 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: Bookport Service Richard: Unfortunately, we can no longer service Book Ports. I usually need to press it multiple times to start or stop reading. How can I get my Bookport serviced? Can you give me an idea of what service costs will be?
