Hello Brian. Thank you very much for the attempt to solve my problem. I believe the corruption that I experienced was in the aa file, but time constraints kept me from testing as thoroughly as I would have liked. Instead, I restored the book, and went back to once again build my bookmarks. I really think this is one of the more outstanding features found in a reading device for the blind. I like being able to underline passages I consider important. I wish I knew what it was I did that caused this problem.

At Sarah's suggestion, I did reformat my card, and everything appears to be working well now.

Warmest regards, and thank you again for the instructions. If I have another such problem, I will try them.

Gary

Hello Gary. These instructions will not be supported by APH, but you
knew that in advance didn't you? :)

1. Put your card, containing the wounded book in an external card reader,
or, if you don't have one, make sure you access the card through Windows
explorer, rather than through the transfer utility.

2. Copy the book.txt._AA file to a temporary location on your hard drive
which is not the queue directory or any directory that the transfer utility
touches.

3. Delete the files for this book from the bookport. You may copy the
._DD file to a temporary place on your hard drive if you don't have a
backup copy, or if you just want to compare the new ._DD file with the old
one later.

4. Retransfer the book to the bookport, using the original source file.
When I say retransfer, I mean using the transfer utility.

5. Once done, copy the ._AA file back to the same directory where you just
put the book. Make sure the filename.txt name matches the names of the ._IX
and ._DD files that are there. I.e. a book called joe.txt should have:
joe.txt._DD, joe.txt._AA and joe.txt._IX

6. Unmount your bookport and see if your marks are there and if the book
reads.

7. If you get the same problem, try erasing the ._AA file from the
bookport flash card. It should now read, but you won't have any book
marks.

8. In fact, if you read this message in its entirety before trying
anything, you can first try copying the ._AA file off the card into a
temporary space, then deleting it from the card. If the book reads, then
somehow, your ._AA file got corrupted. Possible theories might be low
batteries, or some filesystem corruption. Chkdsk or what ever is used now
days should be able to fix you up. If chkdsk finds errors, clean them, and
then put the ._AA file back. This might fix your problem.
