The transfer software remembers the last place from which you retrieved downloadable files, and that location will show up until you navigate to another location before closing the program. As long as you've created a default folder on Book Port into which materials can be downloaded, you should be ok. The reason for doing this is so as not to clutter up your root directory too much and risk lack of functionality or sluggishness. To create such a folder, open the Transfer Tool, select "options," and the "advanced" tab, and you'll find an edit box all ready to receive the name of a default folder. Even the necessary backslash is there waiting for you to simply append a folder name. ----- Original Message ----- From: Shigeru Toda To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Tuesday, November 29, 2005 4:59 AM Subject: [bookport] Re: BookPort Transfer not recognizing BookPort connected on my XP Hi David, Thanks for the good advice. I reformatted the flashed card again as you suggested, and the BookPort Transfer software now recognizes the BookPort. But I also noticed that, when the BookPort Transfer comes up, my J drive, which is the drive name my computer assigned to the BookPort earlier, comes up, too. I don't know if it was doing that before all this trouble happened. If you think this is a normal behavior, I'll let it go at that. If you know of anything else, please let me know. Thank you again for your sound and prompt advice. After the unit has responded and gone to sleep, reinstall the CF card. Re-format the card again, even though you did it previously. If none of this works, remove the batteries for a few minutes. If none of these efforts bring about positive results, try a different CF card. At this point you might well conclude that your unit has a problem. One more thing, though. Before giving up entirely, remove the software from your computer, navigate to your programs, and manually remove the APH folder, because removing the software won't do this, and some residual corrupted material may remain until the folder is gone. Empty your recycle bin. Re-boot your computer. Then reinstall the software. All these steps may not be essential, but if you perform them all, you'll know for sure that you've covered all the bases. ----- Original Message ----- From: Shigeru Toda To: bookport@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Monday, November 28, 2005 10:21 PM Subject: [bookport] BookPort Transfer not recognizing BookPort connected on my XP Hello everyone, For some reason, the BookPort Transfer software no longer recognizes the BookPort connected to my XP. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, and I have also reformatted the flash card. But my computer sees the BookPort only as one of the storage devices. The BookPort Transfer software actually says, "BookPort not connected," when it is indeed connected. What have I done wrong? I am unable to contact APH's technical support during the day. Could anyone help me solve this problem? Your help will be greatly appreciated. ST
