yes, the Unabridged mission statement at: http://unabridged.lib.overdrive.com/4EE9FBCA-0E0A-4106-893C-4C5BF7DC8F53/10/259/en/Libraries.htm says: Mission Statement: Providing narrated digital audio books for individuals living in California, Colorado, Delaware, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Oregon, or Texas and who happen to be blind or visually challenged. If you are not in one of these states, speak to your state's books for the blind director about joining the program. Also, many public libraries, including my own, participate in the Overdrive audio book service. My local library, the Chicago Public Library, has selected Overdrive titles much different from the libraries for the blind so there is little duplication between the two collections. Is there a list of what states are participating in Overdrive? Catalina and Tristan For attractive lips, speak words of kindness. For lovely eyes, seek out the good in people. For a slim figure, share your food with the hungry. For beautiful hair, let a child run his/her fingers through it once a day. For poise, walk with the knowledge that you never walk alone. Phil, This is a program provided by only select regional NLS libraries to their patrons. It is not a national program. These libraries have decided to pay Overdrive's fees to provide this service. some regional libraries have decided not to pay the fees and join the program. Consequently, blind people in those states are not able to use this service. the Overdrive books from this service can be converted to MP3 using Sound Taxi. I suppose you all don't know about the unabridged project. In short it is a web sight where blind persons who are receiving books from the national library service can sign-up to download digital books. I have been let to believe these books are in what is called wma format and, well, our bookport won't play them. Phil Parr.
