        You're right.  If you delete  the ._AA file, you'll lose your place in
the file.  If you delete the ._IX file, you'll be told that unprocessed
files are not supported, assuming it's a text file.  If you delete the ._DD
file, but leave the ._IX file, you'll here the message, "Data file I/O
Error?".  If you have a file called "something.txt" without one of these
extensions, you'll be told it's unsupported.  So, if you want to delete all
books and/or MP3's from a directory on a bookport flash card, do something
like:
del *._IX
del *._DD
del *._AA

and you'll get all the processed data on the card, but leave anything else.
If you want to put some of the data back, you'll have to reinstall it with
the transfer utility.
