Subject: [bookport] Beta comments and issues

Hi all,

Thanks, APH, for the notetaker and the audio seek command. I've found
the audio seek command to be invaluable with a daisy book I have which
doesn't seem to possess enough sentence marks. This will make my life
much easier!

I love the notetaker. As someone who has used a lot of computer
braille, I know I will benefit from this new feature.

I did notice a slight problem with it, though. When I'm reading a file
I created with the editor, I cannot adjust the volume while the unit
is in continuous read mode. If I try, the bookport stops talking
altogether. I then have to press the 2 key twice to start the reading
again. It starts reading from the word that was being read when I
tried to adjust the volume. Does this make sense?

I also have a suggestion: Would it be possible to use dots 1-3-6 +
space as an uppercase character command? I find that my fingers don't
seem to want to bend the right way to use dot 7. I suppose I will get
used to it with time, though. But a u-chord command would also allow a
caps-lock to be introduced.

Finally, I'd like to make an observation, which is not exactly a
suggestion--just something that occurred to me. I do like the braille
keyboard, but I think it might have worked better with the keys on the
second and third rows reversed. This would put the arrows, escape, and
enter on the bottom row, which seems more intuitive to me. I realize
this isn't something that is likely to be changed (and it's probably
something that no one else would like to see modified, since we are
all getting used to the keyboard the way it is). This is only an
observation.

Thanks again for the exciting improvements. My BP is proving to be one
of my better investments.

Angie
