I think I just started noticing this problem when the latest beta (21)
came out.
1. I always put the sleep timer on 5 minutes, and do so with every
new beta install and/or each time I replace my rechargeable batteries.
2. I installed the beta, read some, and put the unit to sleep and
locked overnight.

3. Next evening, I found that the batteries were drained. So, I
installed a freshly charged set of batteries.

4. Again, I read for a few hours, turned the unit off, locked it,
and went to sleep.

5. As before, the next evening I picked up the Bookport to read
and, again, the batteries were dead. So, I put in a freshly charged set
of batteries again and all was well.

6. I haven't checked this evening yet, but at least the Bookport
beeped when in locked mode when I hit any key (as it should) this
morning before I left for work.

7. I've seen some folks on this list indicating that they don't
think that the sleep timer works properly. I would believe this, but
have not tested it quantitatively. As I indicated, I always have the
sleep timer set to 5 minutes. Most times when I'm reading it seems like
this works fine. I would almost swear that I've been reading for much
more than 5 minutes on some occasions until the Bookport puts itself to
sleep again. As I said, this is just an impression, but it seems to
happen quite often. I haven't been very bothered by it, so I haven't
actually timed the sleep timer. Maybe that's something I should do!

Anyway, I hope this is helpful and that the battery drainage problem can
be fixed very soon. Fortunately, I always use rechargeable NiCad
batteries. They usually work quite fine and last a long time. Of
course the battery indicator works a bit strangely, but once you have
that calibrated its no problem. For example, I know that the fully
charged batteries start at only 75-80% and drain down to 60% or so quite
quickly. Then, however, it takes quite a while to go f from 60% down to
a about 40%, and once I'm in the 30's, I know the batteries won't last
much longer.
