Thanks Sandy, and to all others who replied.

I can wait, or rather my wife can. She is a dedicated Bookport user and is fine with what she has for now. Besides, APH is absolutely correct in withholding information until the new product is ready for release. They apparently learned a valuable lesson from others who weren't as smart.

Before PCs as we know them today there were several desktop business computers that ran the C P M operating system. One of these, the Osborne 1, was one of the first luggable computers. Released in April of 1981, it was pretty big and heavy, and had a tiny 5 inch screen but it was a wonder for its day.

The Osborne was a huge overnight success, with sales reaching 10,000 units a month. In September 1981, Osborne Computer Company had its first US$1 million sales month.

In 1982, the Osborne Computer Company announced a successor, the Executive model OCC-2 , with a larger screen and a cooling fan. (I heard from a friend who attended the announcement that Osborne said something like (this is nothing, wait 'till you see what's coming next).

Shortly thereafter, they announced the next system, the Vixen, a portable running the CP/M operating system.

Unfortunately, potential customers stopped buying the Osborne 1, (leaving M A N Y in the warehouses) waiting for the Executive and the Vixen, which wasn't even ready to ship yet. Additionally, the new Kaypro was now available for less money. Osborne sales plummeted and Osborne quickly ran out of money and filed for bankruptcy in September of 1983.

There's more to this story at http://oldcomputers.net/osborne.html if anyone is interested.

Bottom line is that APH has a great product in the Bookport and most wouldn't want them to loose money just so they could tell us what "might" be coming. Give them a break and they will most likely deliver an equally good product, with all the bells and whistles, whenever the next model is released.

Regards,

Don Bomer...

Greetings,

I've been off-list for a month or so after being unsubscribed without my knowledge. Did anyone else have this problem?

Is there anything new on the new BookPort?
