Yup, that's what does the trick.  The bookport's plug is stereo, so you
need either a patch chord with a stereo plug at the other end or,
depending on what you will be plugging into, possibly a chord with a Y
connector to left and right jacks.

I plug mine into my Cambridge SoundWorks Kloss Model 1 radio's auxiliary
input jack yesterday, and it sounded quite nice.  I didn't try it with
the Bose Wave Radio, but I'm sure that would work well too.

Who knew?  I had not considered the Wave Radio but I have been
considering an outside speaker as I just got my BookPort and am trying
to sort things out.  I am guessing that you use a patch chord from the
BP to the Wave Output jack?  Thanks.
