I've always had a problem with that one as well. However, there is a bit of a difference between a Bookport and a Vacuum cleaner. First of all, my Bookport doesn't suck! Finally, someone has expressed a view I have held since the myriad suggestions posted here to allow 24 hours for the BookPort to, I was never sure what, then try re-inserting batteries etc. I'm sure the suggestion has been made because for reasons unknown, BookPorts have come back to life after being laid aside for a time. Perhaps so, but surely not because they have been allowed to sleep and dream for a day or so. Electronic circuitry simply does not function this way. I suspect that units that have been revivified after letting them rest awhile have done so because of some intermittent problem that makes and breaks contact within the unit. I didn't want to say anything about this since I knew there would be a storm of protests. But, I'm glad someone had the courage to speak out. Simply stated, if a unit like the BookPort fails to function normally at any time, either during normal use or during battery replacement, the unit has a problem, perhaps minor, but a problem nonetheless, one that is very probably going to worsen in time until the unit finds its way back to Louisville, thence to the Springer people.
