There is one reason for extreme caution from law enforcement that I'm not
hearing. Namely, that the militants are ready to die for their "cause".
Many have said as much. They are desperate losers. Some of them no doubt
believe martyrdom is a righteous way to go, especially considering their
extreme Mormonism.
I think we need to be very careful not to give them what they want.

I'm thinking the government's lack of participation is rooted in a desire
for civil uprising. The big bad government stepping in and overthrowing
the occupiers would only support their cause. If the public steps up,
however, and takes action against the occupiers themselves, there would be
no room for anti-gov'ers to point fingers and their cause would be
silenced. The public is starting to unite, but it takes time to organize
grassroots opposition and maybe they are giving us time. I may sound like
a left-wing loony myself, but I'm all for taking these peaceful protests to
the next step and willing to drive to Malheur to support a civil uprising
at any given time. Maybe that's the millennial in me.

And, yes, there were lots of Sheriffs and deputies at the meeting,
though in the only photos I saw of them last night (OPB or Oregonlive
websites), they appeared to be maybe just outside the entrance to the gym
rather than in the gym. (There are photos in the gym, from farther away, so
a scan of them might reveal law enforcement if inside the gym.)
