Hi all —
Apologies for straying away from birds and away from Oregon, but this article
from today’s NY Times Magazine is of broad and deep relevance to all
biodiversity on the planet, very much including birds in Oregon. I’ve been
following the slippery topic of insect declines for a while, and think this
article is masterfully put together:

<https://www.nytimes.com/2018/11/27/magazine/insect-apocalypse.html>
You may need a stiff drink to handle the emotional weight, but remember that we
can each do a little to help: Addressing impacts on insects is more easily
done than for birds — eliminate or reduce pesticides, grow flowering native
plants, keep your yard brushy and unkempt, with undisturbed soil, logs, and
leaf litter — and every step one takes to help insects also helps insect-eating
birds.
