ODFW's introduction of Rio Grande turkeys started some decades ago, but
numbers really seem to have taken off in the past decade.
Rapidly expanding turkey populations have become a nuisance in many
Willamette Valley towns and rural residential areas. Here is ODFW's
statement on the subject:

The main plan apparently is to do "trap and release" where turkeys are
generating complaints.
Beyond nuisance issues (and potentially injuries from aggressive birds),
there are some unresolved questions about how Wild Turkeys could impact
ground-nesting native bird species. The short version is that ODFW has
compiled the available data which suggest that predation by turkeys on
vertebrates is limited, but it's not clear that the available data
(mainly from crops of harvested turkeys) fully address turkey diet
during nesting season in ecosystems similar to western Oregon's. I've
had some back and forth with ODFW folks about this, the details of which
might be better to discuss on the BOO list (cc:d here).
