I, along with many others, have signed petitions, written to Congressional reps
and to Gov Brown, gone to a rally, urged others to write and sign petitions in
support of our public lands and MNWR in particular. I agree that we should
consider this ongoing spectacle a call to sustained action...
We need a permanent coalition of environmental and civil rights groups who make
fighting the ultra right wing a priority because that is where this ugliness
comes out of. The right wing (and its media) not condemn Cliven Bundy who
grazes his cattle on federally owned land but refuses to pay federal fees and
taxes. and insist he pays up, while at the same time calling economic
immigrants “illegals” and fomenting hate against them, and others, instead
romanticizing the Bundys. They want us divided. and staying in our "silos".
Idea: Audubon, Center for Biological Diversity, Southern Poverty Law Center,
immigrant rights groups and others fighting for justice and for justice,
protection of wildlife and the earth itself -- set up a special collective fund
for donations in order to pay for and organize a conference so we can all
learn about these right wing groups, their agenda, and how we can fight them.

Greetings All,
Until WE (and I mean we as in us) make this a huge issue that enters the
consciousness of folks in every city, town and burg in America, we cannot
expect the FBI, U.S. Justice Department and Congress to become the
torch-bearers in putting down this sort of uprising. I have been actively
posting daily on Facebook and in other forums. In recent days, I've continually
tried to point out that it is our collective will and clear and united voice
that will inspire the changes we wish to see. Over and over, my posts and
shared news stories get responses that say, "Why aren't THEY doing something?"
Well, the THEY work for us and for the most part answer to a Congress that we
elect.
If you aren't writing letters to your U.S. Senators and Representatives, how
can you expect them to put pressure on the government institutions who are
charged with dealing with this sort of insurrection and outright lawlessness.
Clive Bundy quickly became yesterday's news cycle and we all went about our
merry ways instead of continuing to bang the drum for justice and proper
payment of long overdue money that is owed to US the U.S. taxpayers. I have
been as guilty as the next person in this regard. My inaction has spawned more
Bundy nonsense that is now in my backyard. Before I start blaming anyone else,
I better have a look in the mirror. I won't make this mistake again.
When did our country make significant changes in the civil rights laws? When
the people demanded it.
When did our country change laws that allowed gays and lesbians to marry? When
the people demanded it.
When did our country pass anti-trust laws, when everyday workers organized,
unionized and demanded it.
Greg Walden has to get re-elected every two years. When do you expect him to
change his tune and start caring more about the safety and distress of his own
constituents who are being terrorized by the Bundy gang? When it becomes
abundantly clear to him that if he doesn't start calling for the immediate
ouster of the Bundys he is going to be out on his ASS! Who can send him
packing? The voters and who might they be? That's right, it's US.
We need to be talking to everyone we know and helping them understand what is
at stake, even those folks who don't live in Oregon. Then we need to start
putting heat on our elected officials to start doing our bidding and holding
the feet of the Justice Department and the FBI to the fire until we see the
action that we all want so desperately.

I agree, Paul. I saw a transcript of the conversation between Bundy and the FBI
negotiator. FBI was conciliatory and catering. Bundy re-stated his bottom line
demands of re-structuring all federal lands to local control. All so
respectful. Not like speaking to violators of the law, etc. Then Bundy, his
brother, Payne and entourage sauntered off for a meal in a local restaurant.
It was frankly quite nauseating to read.

are attempting to negotiate a non-violent end to the occupation. Given the
occupiers’ statement that they want nothing less than the turnover of federal

essentially no money to pay for damages they’ve caused (some, like the
disruption of artifacts, are irreparable). Negotiating for amnesty would

I think the present is a good time for FBI to move in. Most of the
locals want them gone, and the players are concentrated in one place.
