We might want to wait on some analysis before we start saying that everyone
is incompetent. Not everything that is bad has a truly applicable federal
criminal charge to bring and from the looks things -- from afar -- it
appears that the government had to prove that there was a conspiracy to
prevent federal employees from doing their jobs, not a conspiracy to occupy
the buildings and land. Thus, it may be that the government had to prove
that they agreed that their *goal* was to prevent the employees from doing
their jobs, not doing something else that had the same outcome. It may be
that they had few good charges to bring in such circumstances, as odd as
that may seem. This was, of course, rather unique circumstances.
This is all from afar, so someone with a stronger understanding of federal
criminal law might want to weigh in. Or we can wait for legal analysis,
which might prove me completely wrong, but at least it will be more
informed.
