Before you jump in your Prius or Volkswagon camper van and head for Burns you might consider that it will be 15 degrees Fahrenheit in the morning for at least the next couple weeks and likely not to get above freezing for the high temperature of the day. The next available motel will be in John Day, Vale, Lakeview or Bend else you will be camping in the snow in a BLM campground or utilizing the National Forest campgrounds some 30 miles away from Burns so bring a tent along with your Arctic parka and a Coleman stove. You might not be welcome to stay with any of the "natives" that live in the area... and, if you notice, they have posted their lands as "no trespassing". They are not asking for your help. Don't make the argument about guns either... if you notice their pickups sport gun racks and some of those "cowboys" pack a six shooter too. Just saying... it's not the same as city life on the west side of the Cascades. Oh, and it might not be an advantage to say you are from the valley either.
