The topic of lead ammunition was discussed during the February Ventana Wildlife
Society zoom chat. If interested, you can watch it on the VWS zoom chat
archive page here https://www.ventanaws.org/monthly-zoom-chats.html , ;
specifically at about 40 and 45:45.

The simple solution is ban all lead ammunition in hunting. 6.5% of the
population buys hunting licenses. Why the BFH should they be allowed to put
millions more pounds of poison into the environment annually? Copper bullets
work. Lead is illegal for waterfowl hunting and has been for decades.
A center right government outlawed lead in all hunting in Norway 15
years ago. Four years later a center left government came to power and
re-legalized lead ammunition. 3.5% of Norwegians buy hunting licences. "
Politicians with principles " is perhaps the ultimate oxymoron. Any way the
winds blows? A ship actually sails faster ACROSS the wind than with the wind,
and the fastest possible speed in worthy craft is a few points INTO the wind.

As I understand, at least one Curry County rancher is considering having a
California Condor feeding station on the ranch using sheep that die naturally.
There may be a photo blind and fee access when Condors find the food source.
Unlike scavenging wild food, there would be no chance of lead bullets in the
carcasses. Currently the ranch in question composts dead sheep. Since there
are over 8,000 sheep on the ranch, there is a fairly constant supply of animals
that die from injuries or other causes, including still births.
Some may remember the Crested Caracara that fed on dead sheep that were left in
a field by another nearby rancher. There were a good number of Turkey Vultures
and Common Ravens that also utilized that opportunity.
