I should state for the record that I think the creation of a second
channel for Malheur specific discussion was a good one. I just think
the implementation was poorly executed. Whether it was meant to seem so
or not, there was a bit of the punitive in the dismissal of discussion
to this site from some members of the OBOL community and, I think,
feelings were hurt.
But let’s have a look at the BOO archive.

First, note that it’s being used. There was obviously a need for a
space for folks to talk about Malheur. Second, ask yourself if it was
all stuff that should have been posted on OBOL. Some of it perhaps,
much of it maybe not.
What would I have done? Well, rally information, petition URL’s,
relevant straight news items should be posted to OBOL, but maybe through
a single designated person. If only one person were posting these
Malheur specific items to OBOL then the site would not get overwhelmed.
That person might also provide a daily digest of titles to longer
opinion pieces by Dave or Joel or whoever, that appear on BOO.
OBOL has the larger audience. Some of this Malheur stuff should be
available to that larger audience. A total blockade is imprudent.
Burning too many bridges is also imprudent.
