Do some reading on the Spanish Civil War and Jugoslavia. You can do more good
at home than you'll ever accomplish dead.

I'm new to Oregon and to Malheur, but I'm well-versed in appreciation for
public lands. During my 7 months living and working as an intern at Bandon
Marsh NWR, I grew impassioned for the National Wildlife Refuge System. I'm a
young-ish birder/conservationist looking to expend some of this energy on
standing up for public lands (and in my dreams, a civil uprising).
The protests held yesterday in various cities were a fantastic show of public
support, but they lack potency. I know some of us think we should stand back
and let the authorities handle this, but I believe the government is standing
back in hopes of a grassroots civil uprising and overthrow of the occupiers.
I want to be in Malheur with hundreds of wildlife enthusiasts encroaching on
the occupied federal buildings armed with binoculars and strong will (and
maybe pitchforks?!).
Anyways, I know many of you will think I'm naive. I am naive in the sense
that I have no idea if Harney County residents want me there, if the
authorities will keep me out, or if my energy will be wasted. That's why I'm
asking all of you, more experienced OR birders and residents than myself, for
ideas/thoughts/opinions. Should I drive out and join Candy Henderson in
solidarity? Is there anyone else out there trying to organize a solely
Malheur-based all hands on deck protest? Is my head in the clouds and should
I stick to studying for the GRE?
Thank you for any and all constructive responses,
