As a sure sign that the Malheur NWR occupiers are getting bored, after
five days on a steady diet of grilled cheese sandwiches (plus chili
hauled in by the supportive owners of The Narrows RV Park), OPB reports
that they're now using the same computers that were previously being
used by refuge staff.
If any refuge staff were subscribed to OBOL, this means that the
militants can also share in the detailed ID discussion of the Hatfield
Marine Science Center oriole. Most of them seem to be from Orchard
Oriole or Scott's Oriole territory, so I wouldn't discount their
contributions if they decide to chime in (though I suppose they might be
posting via the personal accounts of refuge personnel).
Hopefully this will also finally bring clarification of the Brambling
and Bluetail reports.
Can someone please post a brief description of point-count protocols? So
long as they're freeloading on our public lands with nothing better to
do, at least they could be doing something useful. Per recent eBird
discussions, we should expect them to become more adept at detecting
birds, the longer they stay out there.
Maybe someone should post a primer on winter shrike ID, just in case
they're reading this.
