World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) 2019 events are in full force across the
Western Hemisphere and the globe. At the same time, Environment for the
Americas is planning WMBD 2020, a year that promises to bring you as many
new resources, activities, and ways to help conserve migratory birds.
Birds Connect Our World is the theme for 2020 and will focus on the many
ways that we track birds in search of learning more about their migrations
and how we can help to protect them along the way. Our proposed list of
focal birds include those that have been tracked using methods such as
banding, citizen science, and geolocators.

EDUCATORS IN MEXICO PLAN WMBD EVENTS
EFTA staff have just returned from another Programa de Aves Urbanas (PAU)
educator workshop in Jilotepec, Mexico. During this event, organized by the
Mexican National Commision on Biodiversity (CONABIO), our Mexico
coordinator, Daniela Souza (at right), and Latin America Coordinator,
Miguel Matta, introduced methods to organize cleanups as part of World
Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) events.
In 2019, we anticipate as many as 80 WMBD events across the country,
including cleanup events and educational programs.
Special thanks to Tatiana Sánchez and Humberto Berlanga of CONABIO for
inviting EFTA to the PAU meeting and helping us to work in the country.

HUMMINGBIRDS HIGHLIGHTED ON NEW WEBSITE
The Western Hummingbird Partnership works to identify gaps in our knowledge
of migratory hummingbirds and to develop programs to protect them. Since
2012, EFTA has been coordinating this program for U.S. Forest Service's
International Programs. This year, we launched a new website to highlight
our work.
From habitat and research to identification and education, this new website
offers resources for professionals and hummingbird lovers alike. And if you
want to connect with hummingbird gardens, research, and education near you
or share your own work, visit the Hummingbird Highway. This map provides
details about the many activities that highlight the needs of migratory
