Hi all,

At the risk of saying something not fully negative about the Malheur
militants, I have to say, this photo gallery wasn't all that distressing
for me:

http://koin.com/2016/03/23/first-look-how-the-occupiers-left-malheur-refuge/

I wonder how many of us would have left the scene looking better, if we
suddenly evacuated in the middle of what we expected to be a longer-term
stay, or from a campsite.

If a photographer randomly dropped into the Hart Mountain bunkhouse
during a CBC, before we had a chance to clean up, they could have found
some similar scenes.

Only about 1/4 of the 28 photos in this sequence (#2, 3, 6, 10, 15, 21,
23, and 26) show scenes that are significant in terms of slovenliness.
The ones that bother me most are the backhoe scenes, just knowing that
they likely desecrated Native graves. The rest of them -- well, I've
seen worse in many places.

Just trying to maintain some perspective here. I have no sympathy with
the occupiers but don't get sucked into propaganda. If these photos show
the worst of what they left behind, it's not that bad -- apart from the
backhoe digging for a trench toilet, which gets into a whole 'nuther
realm of desecration.

Joel
