Hi Boo-sters,
Cute, Lars!
Even though we all would have liked the Bundy gang evicted on day 2 of the
occupation if not sooner, I have to say that the way it unfolded was brilliant,
looking at it in retrospect. The Bundy sons being in custody lured Cliven to
fly to Portland where he was at long last safely arrested for his crimes. So,
even though it seemed that the occupation was never going to end, justice is
being at last served both to the Malheur malcontents and the Bunkerville
bandits. The downside of course was the damage to HQ and Paiute cultural
materials and many biological consequences, such as the carp projects, etc,
etc.
Also, we don’t know what was going on behind the scenes. Maybe Sally Jewell’s
and others’ silence was part of the plan to lull and embolden the occupiers
into thinking they had actually pulled it off. When in fact, LE were likely
hatching plans left and right for many scenarios. The one that played out was
brilliantly successful, except of course for LaVoy Finicum, and in part, in my
opinion, was helped by the arrogant assumption that they were above the law
because “nobody” seemed to care except a bunch of excitable birders…..
So, whether or not the silence by various lawmakers was deliberate, the
occupiers are in custody awaiting trial, the refuge system has received an
infusion of love and energy and volunteers eager to make it right, Friends of
Malheur received an infusion of members and cash……..
Warmly,
Mary

Dude, it's High Country News. Although my own personal experience with the
