Don,
Small world indeed! That's why I try to be nice to everyone...
(sorry for the continued non-Bobsy content. I promise, this is the last of it
from me)
There was another interesting coincidence involving 60-23 and Jay.
Many years ago I was visiting a friend who's a race mechanic. I saw an old
Elva wheel in his basement next to a Lotus 18 he was working on. When Jay
bought 60-23, he asked me if I could help fill in one of the blanks in the
ownership history. On a whim, I called that friend, and it just so happens
that the wheel in his basement came off 60-23 4 decades ago when his father
owned/raced 60-23 in the midwest! Anyway, Jay is an amazing guy who has the
capability to make 60-23 one of the best and most correct Elva Mk6's anywhere
in the world. The job was far beyond my aptitude.
It would be nice to someday race with you Elva and Bobsy folk at Monterey.
I've always wanted to see Thinesen, Bruckner etc. in the flesh (well, their
cars). With apologies to all Bobsy owners, I think the Mk6 is the most
beautiful sports racer of that era.

John,
Small world, I know Mike. I'm accepted for Monterey again this year in my
Bobsy. If you make it, be sure to stop by and chat.
Even more interesting, I was emailing back and forth with Jay Laifman about
the Elva Mk6. I had 60-30 that I bought from Robert Byrd's family after he
passed away. He had purchased it from Lew Hodges, along with chassis 60-23.
Jay told me he had purchased 60-23 from you, after Barry Taylor had it. I
had looked at Barry's Mk6, with the Alfa engine, before buying the Byrd car.
It's always amazing how close the vintage race car community is, and what a
great group of enthusiasts.
All the Best,
Don

Don,
a close friend of mine says he knows you (Mike Kaleel). He use to run a
blue Lotus 23b at the Historics/Pre-historics, in your run group. But he
sold his 23, and currently brings a Lola Mk1 out there every August.
