Partly comes down to old saying - deaf, dumb and blind - I have hearing aids (although can still generally hear without them, if not perfectly), so while I am deaf and blind, I'm not necessarily dumb/stupid - all the time anyway...<smile> Stay well Jacob Kruger Blind Biker Skype: BlindZA '...fate had broken his body, but not his spirit...' ----- Original Message ----- From: Retha To: blindza@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Sunday, April 10, 2011 7:21 PM Subject: [blindza] Re: Sore eyes, etc. Hi again Oh Jacob, there are very, very few doctors who have the faintest idea about persons with disabilities and usually they are pretty uncomfortable with us. My, the way some of those eye doctors can try to propell you around by your neck!!! Some of the optomotrists had training in low vision, but then again, you and I will not visit them, so they can't help us as to assistive devices. I guess you are just lucky if you meet somebody who actually knows what's going on. I don't actually think my doctor would know about all the devices, but at least he tells me what's cooking with my eyes - and that's his job, I should think. But yes, I have also come across quite a few of those silent ones. Heck, when I was a kid the one actually told my parents I was totally intellectually disabled - he could not see that I just could not see that well. As for the intellectual disability ... well, I did manage to graduate in the end! Retha
