Blind biker inspires walk

*

By Gerhardt Theron

Having received a guide dog has made him more independent

LOSING his eyesight and his wife in a motorcycle accident on the R21 four years ago, did not stop Mr Jacob Kruger (37) from living life to the full.

Mr Kruger, aresident of Norkem Park and Hell Razor member, received a guide dog, Inzi. from the South African Guide Dog Association in January.

"Inzi made me independent. I can now walk in the streets and around objects thanks to Inzi," he s>aid.

Mr Kruger had a passion for motorcycles his whole life. After the accident he adapted to the "blind life". He can now watch movies, read books, play computer games and cook his own food. He is currently a computer programmer in Woodmead.

In his spare time he runs a web site for the blind, www.blindza. co.za, where they can find games, accessories to ease their lives or mail him for any information.

He held the "long distance rider"

JACOB Kruger (37) lost his eyesight and wife in a motorcycle accident on the R21 four years ago. Here he is on his "first bike ride" after the accident.

title at Hell Razors Motorcycle Club for four consecutive years and never gave up on biking. He regularly visits rallies and sometimes joins in runs.

"Once a biker, always a biker," he said.

In 2006 he rode a bike while lifting a friend who gave him directions.

Mr Kruger is one of the motivations for a pup-to-pub walk in Birch Acres this weekend. For more information about the walk, call Tim Ronaldson on 076-536-3819.
